Hello, I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you. Thank you to our NLS families for supporting everyone this year! To my students - thank you for being such a wonderful class this year. It has been such a joy to be your teacher this year. I am so excited for your next part of the journey in life! You will have such a good time in middle school and I can't wait to see all that you accomplish in life.   Hello NLS families, Thank you so very much for all who took time out of your incredibly busy schedules to come and celebrate our wonderful grade 5’s today. Tomorrow is the last day of school, so today was spend wrapping up a bunch of activities, and our last day of gym. See you all tomorrow!

Hello! Today we:  painted on the "ceiling" (the underside of the desks) like famous artists have painted on the ceilings of famous buildings  started creating personalized "yearbooks" to remember our grade 5 year did a "math hunt" around the school  got to watch the NLS year end video!  Reminders: Grade 5 Send-Off - tomorrow at 2:45pm!   Hello NLS Families! Happy LAST week of school - AND LAST week of Grade 5! The time sure is going fast. Today we: discussed important events in Canadian history made and tested a few weather instruments - ask me about this!  drew symmetrical pictures outside with chalk made a few crafty surprises!  played outside for gym today and enjoyed the nice weather Reminders: Grade 5 Send-Off -- THIS Wednesday, June 28th at 2:45pm LAST day of school - Thursday, June 29th!  Photos:

Hello! Today we:  practiced math on prodigy had a mini-play day during gym class got ready for our tie-dye and then tie-dyed our shirts! - see photos below did read-to self time  Reminders:  tomorrow is playday! make sure your child has a water bottle, sun screen, etc. reminder- they will be given a freezie tomorrow after payday- please email me if you DO NOT want your child to have one.  Hello NLS families, Today is an important day. Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day (and June is National Indigenous Peoples Month). We did many special activities to recognize and honour this day, the Indigenous Peoples and the land we live on. For example, we: played indigenous games in gym class - ask me a game that we played today watched the NLS Land Acknowledgement (it was just made last week) watched a Summer Solstice video with an Indigenous Elder who taught us all about the summer solstice  made a piece off artwork that represented the land and the buffalo - we used many art techniques to complete this task - see photos below  learned about the new flags that our school has, and what they mean  We also: learned about a few key moments in Canadian Identity  Reminders: tomorrow we are tie-dying! Please wear dark clothes OR clothes that you don't mind potentially getting tie-dye on (students will be wearing gloves, but we don't have aprons, etc). If you have not yet

Hello NLS Families, Today we: learned about ratios in math class played a live-action version of mario cart in gym class wrote a letter to next year's teachers (note: students DO NOT know who their teachers are yet- they just wrote and addressed it to "my Grade 6 teacher") learned about how World War I, The Great Depression, and World War II impacted Canada  played literacy games measured the temperature and the weather for our science graphs Reminders: please bring in your white t-shirt if you have not already done so Wednesday, June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day - we will be learning lots about this tomorrow! Thursday, June 22nd we will be tie-dying them! Please wear dark clothes if possible, as the tie-dye will stain fabric. Friday, June 23rd - Play Day!  Hello! Today we: did some organizing of our bins, materials and the classroom learned about how to take survey results, and then identify the percentages and decimals to represent the data (tomorrow we will learn about ratios with this data) did reading, literacy centres and literacy games  learned all about weather systems, watched videos and had a big discussion about the water cycle, wind/air movement, the hottest/coldest places on earth and how humans can make an impact on the climate practiced our own songs in music class (with the xylophones) Reminders: responses required for the grade 5 send off! Please check your email if you haven't had a chance to respond yet! please bring in a white t-shirt for tie-dying!  play-day is on Friday! the theme is western, so if you want to dress up, you can! Hello NLS families! Happy Thursday!  Today we: Completed another closed-list survey, this time we asked 50 people - tomorrow we will graph and analyze our data Played badminton in PE Experimented in science class with types of material and if it’s waterproof, and also talked about why it’s important to check the weather forecast  Talked about confederation in Canada, and also about the famous 5! Reminders: Please bring a white t-shirt to school for tie-dying- if you can bring it by Monday, that would be appreciated!

Hello NLS Families! Today we: tested the "rain gauge" weather instrument - we wanted to see how much rain fell at our school today, so we measured it all day long! It rained approximately 1.8cm during school hours - we left it out overnight, so will see if there is more rain in the morning! - see photos below did another survey and practiced making bar graphs and dot plots - ask me what question I surveyed people about! learned all about climate vs. weather  did a brain break drawing activity - see photo below learned more about Canada after confederation  finished The City of Ember - ask me about it!! Hello!  Today we: started to learn about statistics and surveys, and what the word "frequency means"  played basketball in gym class read a lot from the city of ember! Ask me about it tonight did some catch-up (for students who needed extra time to complete some tasks) and played prodigy to practice our math facts  did read to self, literacy centres and literacy games talked about effective listening and effective communication in health (and did a reflection about it) talked about our last unit in science, which is weather! Tomorrow we will brainstorm all we know about weather and then dive into that topic further!  Hello! Today we: did a small fractions check-in to show what we know about identifying and adding/subtracting fractions  learned all about symmetry in Indigenous Art, then we did a math/art task (we had to look at Indigenous Artwork and find lines of symmetry in the artwork) - see photos below played freedom frenzy in gym class and a game called "dart and hoop" to learn about indigenous games (this month is National Indigenous Peoples Month) we did our wrap up for our social studies unit with some review and a quick check-in to show what we have been learning about other students had some catch-up time and others played prodigy to practice some skills we have been recently working on in math (symmetry & fractions) Reminders: NO school tomorrow - Friday June 9th 2023 - it is a PD day! Today we: made fraction art and next week we will practice adding these fractions next week - see photos below! watched a video about the North West Mounted Police and how they came to Canada west learned all about European immigrants to Canada finished writing and editing our electricity essays for science and language arts had time to play prodigy, read and complete any incomplete tasks had an art lesson all about symmetry Reminders: June 1 – 6:00 pm – Kindergarten Open House for students starting Kindergarten in the 2023-24 School Year June 7 – Fun Lunch (you can place your order at  Healthy Hunger ) June 7 – 6:00 pm – School Council Meeting June 8 – Spirit Day: Creative Hair Day!
