Hello! Happy Friday! Today we: learned all about Africville in Nova Scotia as a part of social studies and wrote a paragraph about it (this included reading books, watching videos, doing research on the Chromebooks, as well as using a graphic organizer for our ideas before we wrote - and then once we wrote our paragraphs, we did self edits and partner edits- it was a busy morning)!  tested our burglar alarms (at least a few groups did - some are still working on this and will finish next week).  played on prodigy to practice math! Hello!  Today we: did lots of fraction math! we used lots of manipulative to help us make sense of fractions (and comparing/ordering fractions) -- we also made a fraction key to help us make fraction art - see photos below. did reading and literacy centres finished learning about westward expansion in Canada, the North West Mounted Police and European settlement continued to work on our vault projects to wrap up our electricity unit!  Reminders: NO school on Monday, May 29th 2023 - PD Day! Hello! Hope everyone had a great Wednesday! Today was career day and lots of students dressed up! We had: teachers, NASA workers, football players, artists, doctors, physio therapists and more!  Today we: did some review and then a fractions check-in read and played literacy games continued to learn about British North America (today we learned all about westward expansion) had a PRACTICE lockdown. Students did great and waited quietly until our room was checked by Calgary Police Services.  started our "burglar alarms" - see photos below and ask me about this tonight!  Hello! Hope everyone had a great long weekend.  Today we:  reviewed all of our work with fractions and did some practice on prodigy - students can log in at home and show you if they want! - see photos below read 2 chapters of our read aloud "The City of Ember!" - ask me tonight about what we read! We also put key details in our visual journal!  also learned that we are going to make "vaults" and "burglar alarms" starting tomorrow! We still need a few more shoe boxes for this (if anyone has one lying around)! This will be to wrap up our electricity unit. learned all about British North America and what life was like in the 1800s.  Reminders: This is just a friendly reminder about our spirt day - "Career Day" (aka "dress up like what you want you want to be when you grow up" day) - which is tomorrow! Students can dress up like something they would like to be when they grow up! For example - a scientist or a chef or a soccer player! Be c

Hello! Happy Friday and happy long weekend! Today we: compared and ordered fractions (using a few strategies like drawing factions, making equivalent fractions, or using a number line) did reading, literacy games and word work continued to learn about British North America in social studies - today we got out the textbooks and practiced doing non-fiction research with them. - see photos below talked about safety and responsibility in health class. Hello! Happy Thursday! Today we: played tag games in gym class practiced converting improper fractions to mixed fractions, and mixed fractions to improper fractions did reading and word work learned about British North America in social studies watched a Bill Nye video about magnetism! Reminders: there IS school tomorrow (Friday, May 19th) NO school on Monday, May 22nd (Victoria Day) 5C! Please bring in a shoebox if you have one for a project we are starting next week! Photos:

Hello! Today we: learned more about fractions (e.g., how to put fractions on a number line) and did a fraction scavenger hunt in the prairie (questions were about comparing fractions - see photos below did read to self, reading groups with Ms. Clark and literacy centres continued to learn about Loyalists, and made a mind map  learned about magnetism (and how it's connected to electricity) and we did an experiment with iron filings! - see photos below Reminders: May 18 – Healthy Hunger COBS day (if you ordered)!
