Hello NCS Families! Today we: played scooter hockey in gym did our word work played math games and practiced multiplication facts (our new unit is multiplication and division, so we are spending a bit of time practicing our basic facts) - we also each got a multiplication chart and made some flash cards for our toughest time tables did our literacy centres and reading groups did art (watercolours) did makerspace continued to learn about paragraph writing (we took a few notes about paragraphs and then had to practice organizing sentences into paragraphs - Ms. Clark had paragraphs and cut them up sentence by sentence and then we had to reorganize them into the proper order from start to finish) Reminders: Winter Walk tomorrow, February 1st 2023 - please ensure that you come dressed for the weather (tomorrow and everyday) - this means:  jacket, snow pants, mitts, hats, boots, etc.  Report Cards are now available online 

Hello! We go outside for recess everyday, and for Field Study Fridays, and you need to be dressed appropriately! This means jackets, hats, gloves/mitts, boots, etc. 

Good afternoon!   Today we:  finished our zentangling and then watercolour painted the zentangles (in art - see photos below) did group skipping and played one round of the skipping called helicopter in P.E. (ask me about the game tonight) learned how to read notes in music and practiced reading and writing them on a music staff with a partner continued with our groups in word work  organized our bins  continued to learn about our new literacy centres  played math games  had a meaningful conversation with our class about how to problem solve, who to talk to if there are issues, and what the expectations are for grade 5 students at our school. I reminded students that I am here for them to help them navigate through problems, and that we want and expect students to make the best choices possible to keep themselves and others safe. Happy Wednesday!  Today we: did word work first thing this morning did group skipping in gym class (and then some tricks along with that) had a check-in in math about coordinate geometry (what we have been working on for the past 2 weeks) including coordinate grids, x & y axis, ordered pairs, how to count between ordered pairs on a grid and had our second day of doing literacy centres during reading time - the centres are: Read to Self, Read with Ms. Clark (reading groups), Partner Reading/Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, Response to Reading and Literacy Games. We are currently learning what we can do at all of the centres, and the expectations around these centres - today lots of students chose writing or partner reading. Read a book about gratitude and then we wrote about what we are grateful for did makerspace/ and cardboard building put up our recently finished National Park posters for our gallery walk - we got to walk around, read and learn all about some national parks in

Happy Tuesday! We hope your week is going well so far! Today was quite busy. We: started the day off with word work  did lots of helicopter skipping in gym finished our national parks posters and answered 3 questions about Canada's National Parks started learning about staffs, notes and treble clefs in music (music theory) - once we've learned the notes they we will be playing some instruments! Today we were practicing drawing the treble clef (see the picture below) learned how to plot coordinates with shapes in math learned all about our new literacy centres in reading also learned a new math game today!  Hope you all have a wonderful night!

Happy Tuesday NLS families!  Today was a really busy day. We: continued working on coordinates and ordered pairs in math  continued working on our national park posters for social studies - we are working on our rough copies and some of us are working on our good copies. We hope to be done by late this week or early next week! worked on our Harris Burdock Mystery Stories and also did word work  went to the makerspace and/or worked on the cardboard projects with Ms. Gadbois continued skipping in gym and learned some basic skills/tricks - we also watch a video of a professional jump roper - Nick Woodard  Hope you all have a good night!

Hi NLS families! Today we: continued to practice rounding in math (to the nearest tens, hundreds and even thousands) played "crazy curling" in P.E.  did more research for our National Parks Posters did "makerspace" and tried to build a structure that could support a small rock.  Happy Thursday!

Hello! Happy Wednesday! Today we: played “crazy basketball” in gym started a new project in social studies where we had to research national parks of Canada and we will be researching and making posters about the parks we picked continued to practice rounding in math wrote about our most memorable winter break memories and a letter to Ms. Clark so she can get to know us better.

Happy Tuesday!   Today we: did "catch-up" to complete assignments due before the break read a book called "Dolphin SOS" (about the Atlantic Region in Canada) learned how to play boggle (a literacy game) wrote about what we did on our break  played "crazy hockey" in P.E.
