Hello NLS families,

Today is an important day. Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day (and June is National Indigenous Peoples Month). We did many special activities to recognize and honour this day, the Indigenous Peoples and the land we live on. For example, we:

  • played indigenous games in gym class - ask me a game that we played today
  • watched the NLS Land Acknowledgement (it was just made last week)
  • watched a Summer Solstice video with an Indigenous Elder who taught us all about the summer solstice
  • made a piece off artwork that represented the land and the buffalo - we used many art techniques to complete this task - see photos below
  • learned about the new flags that our school has, and what they mean
We also:
  • learned about a few key moments in Canadian Identity
Reminders:
  • tomorrow we are tie-dying! Please wear dark clothes OR clothes that you don't mind potentially getting tie-dye on (students will be wearing gloves, but we don't have aprons, etc). If you have not yet brought your white shirt, please do so!
  • Friday is playday! Please see email from Mrs. Brinson for more details
  • Wednesday (June 28th) is the Grade 5 send off!
