Hello NLS Families,

Today we:

  • learned about ratios in math class
  • played a live-action version of mario cart in gym class
  • wrote a letter to next year's teachers (note: students DO NOT know who their teachers are yet- they just wrote and addressed it to "my Grade 6 teacher")
  • learned about how World War I, The Great Depression, and World War II impacted Canada 
  • played literacy games
  • measured the temperature and the weather for our science graphs
Reminders:
  • please bring in your white t-shirt if you have not already done so
  • Wednesday, June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day - we will be learning lots about this tomorrow!
  • Thursday, June 22nd we will be tie-dying them! Please wear dark clothes if possible, as the tie-dye will stain fabric.
  • Friday, June 23rd - Play Day! Please see Mrs. Brinson's email for more information
  • Wednesday, June 28th @ 2:45 - Grade 5 send off
  • Thursday, June 29th - Last day of school for students! This is also "pyjama day"!

Hello! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Today we: had our morning meeting did our word work played a doubling game in math and continued to practice factors, multiples, and prime/composite numbers did reading, reading groups and literacy centres did a survey to see how the grade 5 classes at NLS were doing (we did this on the computer) continued our discussion about reversible and irreversible changes as well as review about what acids/neutrals/bases are and the PH scale did drumming in music class!

 Today we: -Listened to the story "The Wish Tree" and created wish ornaments for our wish trees at Northern Lights. We will be putting up the trees and placing our ornaments tomorrow during Makerspace. -Learned about four ways to start writing the beginning of a story, including an action, a thought or question, a sound, and dialogue. We wrote a story beginning as a class and practiced writing a story beginning about a camping trip independently. Then we started planning how we will start our pourquoi story beginning with our wetland animal. Reminders: -PJ Day tomorrow. Please do not bring stuffies to school.
