Hello!
Today we:
  • learned more about fractions (e.g., how to put fractions on a number line) and did a fraction scavenger hunt in the prairie (questions were about comparing fractions - see photos below
  • did read to self, reading groups with Ms. Clark and literacy centres
  • continued to learn about Loyalists, and made a mind map 
  • learned about magnetism (and how it's connected to electricity) and we did an experiment with iron filings! - see photos below
Reminders:
  • May 18 – Healthy Hunger COBS day (if you ordered)!
  • May 22 – No school (Victoria Day)
  • May 24 – SPIRIT DAY: Career Day (Students can dress like what the want to be when they grow up)
  • May 29 – No School (Non-Instruction Day
  • June 7 – 6:00 pm – School Council Meeting

Hello! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Today we: had our morning meeting did our word work played a doubling game in math and continued to practice factors, multiples, and prime/composite numbers did reading, reading groups and literacy centres did a survey to see how the grade 5 classes at NLS were doing (we did this on the computer) continued our discussion about reversible and irreversible changes as well as review about what acids/neutrals/bases are and the PH scale did drumming in music class!

 Today we: -Listened to the story "The Wish Tree" and created wish ornaments for our wish trees at Northern Lights. We will be putting up the trees and placing our ornaments tomorrow during Makerspace. -Learned about four ways to start writing the beginning of a story, including an action, a thought or question, a sound, and dialogue. We wrote a story beginning as a class and practiced writing a story beginning about a camping trip independently. Then we started planning how we will start our pourquoi story beginning with our wetland animal. Reminders: -PJ Day tomorrow. Please do not bring stuffies to school.
