Hello NLS Families! Happy Friday. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Today we:
  • had our morning meeting
  • did our word work/small group work
  • practiced our basic facts and practiced multiplication facts
  • did reading and literacy games
  • were introduced to our new "Reading Response Journals" which we will begin next week (will be done as an option during literacy centres time and due every other week) 
  • did our final observations on the borax crystals we made - though students began to ask interesting questions/making connections to previous science experiments (solution to recovery from last week)-- so we created an experiment on our own (will this evaporate or change back to borax and water?)  we will report back next week! See photos below.

Hello! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Today we: had our morning meeting did our word work played a doubling game in math and continued to practice factors, multiples, and prime/composite numbers did reading, reading groups and literacy centres did a survey to see how the grade 5 classes at NLS were doing (we did this on the computer) continued our discussion about reversible and irreversible changes as well as review about what acids/neutrals/bases are and the PH scale did drumming in music class!

 Today we: -Listened to the story "The Wish Tree" and created wish ornaments for our wish trees at Northern Lights. We will be putting up the trees and placing our ornaments tomorrow during Makerspace. -Learned about four ways to start writing the beginning of a story, including an action, a thought or question, a sound, and dialogue. We wrote a story beginning as a class and practiced writing a story beginning about a camping trip independently. Then we started planning how we will start our pourquoi story beginning with our wetland animal. Reminders: -PJ Day tomorrow. Please do not bring stuffies to school.
